FAQs
Are all RoughRiders teams coached by staff coaches?
No. RoughRiders teams are coached using a mix of professional staff and volunteer parent coaches. Some teams are entirely volunteer-run, while others utilize a combination of volunteer coaches and professional training support.
Are volunteer-led teams successful?
Yes. Several of our most successful teams within the RoughRiders program are coached entirely by volunteers. Strong leadership, consistency, and commitment are key factors in team success.
Who are the volunteer coaches?
Volunteer coaches are typically parents who have background in baseball and training within our program who generously give their time to lead practices, manage games, and support player development. All volunteers play an important role in creating a positive team culture and reinforcing the skills taught during training. Staff coaches are assigned to help run practices and attend games so that all teams are guided from the program.
How are coaches assigned to teams?
In most cases, staff coaches are assigned after team rosters are finalized. This most commonly occurs when we form new teams due to growth within an age group. Assigning coaches after rosters are set helps ensure balanced teams and a positive experience for all players.
Do coaches ever return to the same team each year?
In some situations, a coach may return to an established team they have led for multiple years. Outside of those cases, coaching assignments are made based on the overall needs and success of the program.
What role does the professional training staff play?
Our professional training staff supports player development through structured training sessions, skill instruction, and program oversight. This ensures all teams (regardless of coaching structure) receive consistent instruction aligned with RoughRiders standards.
Can parents get involved as volunteer coaches?
Yes. We value parent involvement and welcome those interested in coaching or assisting with teams. If you are interested in getting involved, please apply on our website by going to Resources > For Coaches > Volunteer Coaches Application
Do teams have a team manager or other team support roles?
All teams are required to have a team manager, minimum two assistant coaches, and minimum 2 game changers. These are all volunteer positions. Assistant coach positions may be filled by a staff coach, but parent volunteers are welcome. To fill your team's manager role, please apply on our website by going to Resources > For Coaches > Team Managers Application
