Specialty Trainers
Cody Byrnes
My name is Cody Byrnes. I played 4 years of college baseball at Colorado State University. I was an all-conference player in high school and currently play amateur baseball within the RoughRiders organization. My specialties for lessons are hitting, infield, as well as outfield lessons. I believe our athletes like working with me because of the mechanical adjustments and technical/mental part of the game that I provide for them. In terms of defensive work, I was personally always regarded as a plus defender in college and I am able to share and critique our athletes to push them to be better quick twitch athletes.
David Ellingson
I'm David Ellingson. As a three-year varsity letterman at The Woodlands College Park High School in Texas, I was recognized as an All-District 1st baseman and RHP. After high school I was awarded a scholarship to play at the University of Georgetown. During the season I earned 2nd team Big East Honors after posting a .75 ERA in 24 innings. At Georgetown I hold both records for single season and career ERA. By junior year I was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 34th round. I played 7 years in the Mariners organization across many levels; finishing my career in Double A. I now am with RoughRiders Baseball as the Director of Recruitment and Training. I am excited to pass on all the knowledge I have gained throughout my years of experience.
Trevor Erickson
My Name is Trevor Erickson. I've been a part of the RoughRiders family since 2014 - starting as a player under the guidance of former pros Chad Jacobsen (Rockies) and Chad Povich (Red Sox), and now as a coach for the program. After playing college baseball at Bryant & Stratton (NJCAA D1) in Virginia—where I earned First Team All-Conference— I returned to RoughRiders to play with the RR Adult Team. As an instructor, I specialize in hitting, outfield, and youth pitching. I use video analysis to break down swings and mechanics, helping players understand their movements and give insight into the process of making it to the next level. This approach allows for personalized coaching that builds power, balance, and confidence. My goal is to help young athletes grow their skills—and their confidence—on and off the field.
Ford Eberlein
I'm Ford Eberlein. I am a former collegiate player, the Director of Adult Baseball for RoughRiders, and the Varsity Head Coach for Stanley Lake High School. I coach hitting and catching for lessons. In my style of coaching I offer excitement, dedication, and honesty. I feel honesty is harder to come by these days; every player will know exactly where they currently stand and where I see them project skills.
Scott Laur
My name is Scott Laur. During my time spent playing baseball for NCAA DII Hawaii Pacific University and studying Psychology, I embody the spirit of leadership and mentorship. Since switching to coaching, I have guided my first team to a championship victory in the 2023 Baseball New Zealand Championship. My experience coupled with enthusiasm for nurturing young talent and fostering a winning mentality will make a lesson with me a treasured addition to a player's development. I prioritize working as a catching, hitting, and outfield coach as well as teaching an in depth perspective to the mental game and the success built off the field. As your training coach, I will bring a wealth of experience, passion, and success to each of you who sign up for my lessons.
Ethan Moseley
I’m Ethan Moseley, a sports performance coach with a background as a former Division II baseball player. I competed as an infielder at both Otero Junior College and Metropolitan State University of Denver. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and bring a diverse range of experience in training athletes from youth to professional levels; both in the weight room and on the field. My coaching philosophy centers on the integration of strength training with sport-specific development to help athletes maximize their potential and excel in their respective disciplines. I am committed to empowering athletes to perform at their best, whether that’s increasing strength, improving agility, or enhancing overall athleticism.
Nico Porreco
I'm Nico Porreco. I have been a RoughRiders instructor and coach since 2016 working with youth, high school, and college ball players. I played outfield at Trinidad State Junior College for 2 years and played another 2 years attending Adams State University. From 2016-2021 I assisted in running the youth and high school hitting camps. I offer lessons for fielding and hitting - specialize in fielding.
Josh Smith
I'm Josh Smith. A lefty from Tupelo, Mississippi. I was a 4 year letterman at Tupelo High School where we went on to win the MS State Championship in 2017. I played for 5 years in college where I was named NAIA Player of the Week and Conference Player of the Week. In my time playing baseball I have gained experience in a variety of positions such as Outfield, Pitcher, and 1st base. I offer pitching, hitting, and fielding lessons. With this, I can provide perspectives from both sides while motivating players to expand their mental and physical skills to reach their goals.
Mason Ursetta
